How much does an online store cost in Romania: WooCommerce, Shopify or custom

What an online store in Romania really costs: building it, the platform, payments, invoicing, couriers and monthly costs, and when to choose WooCommerce, Shopify or a custom build.

An online store is more than a website with a cart. It needs well-described products, card payments, invoicing, courier delivery and a few legal requirements specific to Romania, which is where the big differences between quotes come from.

What you pay for when building it

  • Design and structure: product pages, categories, cart and checkout, where sales are won or lost.
  • Product upload: ten products or two thousand is a big difference; imports from a file or an ERP can be automated.
  • Integrations: a payment processor (for example Netopia, EuPlătesc or Stripe), invoicing (SmartBill, Oblio), couriers (Fan Courier, Sameday, Cargus).
  • Legal pages: terms, returns, GDPR, cookies and the ANPC dispute-resolution links (SAL and SOL) required for Romanian stores.
  • Speed and SEO: category and product pages are what bring traffic from Google.

Public offers usually start around €1,000 for template-based stores and grow significantly for custom stores with many integrations. Compare what is included, not just the number.

WooCommerce, Shopify or custom?

WooCommerce fits most small and medium stores in Romania: no monthly platform fee, integrations for nearly every local payment processor, invoicing tool and courier, and you fully own the site and data.

Shopify is a hosted subscription service, quick to start and stable, but many local integrations are separately billed apps and an extra fee applies if you don't use its own payment processor. Check current prices on Shopify's site, since they change often.

A custom store makes sense for high volume, complex pricing, B2B with per-customer prices or special integrations.

Monthly costs to budget for

Hosting or subscription, payment processor fees, the invoicing subscription, maintenance and, for a new store, usually marketing as the largest item.
